HistoryHistory

“Wellington Hamrick” is more than a company name, it’s the name of our founder and mentor. Wellie, as he was affectionately known, was an entrepreneur, inventor, and visionary whose ideas and concepts were turned into tangible, successful products and services that were able to satisfy customer demands. Essentially, he was always able to meet the needs of the customer, perhaps even before the customer realized they had a need. This type of pro-active forward thinking is something that lives today within the company and drives us to continue to be a leader in our field.

History In 1963, Wellington “Wellie” Hamrick opened the doors to a precast concrete business called Hamrick Precast, located in Boiling Springs, NC. Beginning with the production of pre-cast fallout shelters, Hamrick later went on to design, patent, manufacture and distribute a septic tank with an internal separation and distribution function. Throughout the region Hamrick was known for his unique tanks and his uncompromising standard of quality for on site septic systems. Incorporated in 1974, the company became Wellington Hamrick, Inc. With the introduction of Ready Mix services in 1985, Wellington Hamrick, Inc. began providing quality concrete not only to commercial, industrial, and highway construction projects, but residential customers as well.

Upon Hamrick’s retirement in 1989, his daughter Kitty Hamrick Hoyle took over leadership of the business. Since that time, Hoyle has automated Ready Mix concrete production and completed a 12,000 square foot production facility expansion which included new offices, an on-site concrete quality lab and precast division. Most recenlty in 2004, Wellington Hamrick opened a second Ready Mix location in Shelby, the area’s most modern facility. History

Company Awards and Recognition

David Silvers 2010 CRCMCA Driver of the Year
The Carolinas Ready Mix Concrete Association selects a member employee from the Carolinas as the CRMCA Ready Mixed Truck Driver of the Year. In 2010 Wellington Hamrick, Inc.’s David Silvers was the award recipient. The award rightly acknowledges the significant contribution of ready mixed concrete truck drivers to the growth and success of individual companies and the ready mixed concrete industry. We are very proud that David received this well-deserved salute. As a key member of our concrete production and delivery team, the award recognizes his career achievement, safety, professionalism, competence and customer service skills. Thank you and congratulations to David Silvers.

Wellington Hamrick, Inc. Driver, Ray Mitchel
During the 2012 London Olympics, no one was more attentive to the Team USA 4x400m relay than Wellington Hamrick, Inc. driver, Ray Mitchell. His grandson, Manteo Mitchell, gained international attention when he suffered a broken leg during the preliminary relay event. It didn’t keep Mitchell from contributing to the team’s fastest prelim times ever. We can point to similar team characteristics in Grandfather Ray. All of us are extraordinarily proud for Ray Mitchell and his family. Congratulations on the continued success of our favorite Silver Medal Olympian as he delivers his important message on positive thinking; “Faith, Focus, Finish.”

Wellington Hamrick, Inc. Driver, Thomas Lail
March is time for the Cleveland County Schools Fifth Grade Career Fair at Gardner Webb University in Boiling Springs. As always, Wellington Hamrick, Inc. driver, Thomas Lail, and his immaculately polished 11 yard concrete mixer truck were in attendance. The organizers of the event always tell us that Thomas is a crowd favorite and “one of the most liked presenters at the Career Fair.” Thomas is credited with taking time to interact with the boys and girls, answering questions and giving them an opportunity to interact with him and the industry. We at Wellington Hamrick, Inc. appreciate Thomas taking great care in performing such an important task.
